CMLL 80th Anniversary results

Though I would’ve loved to have been there, I also haven’t seen a single baseball game in 2013 to that point, and did enjoy watching the Colorado Rockies stomp on the Arizona Diamondbacks… but I will save the trip details for another post…

Here are the results from Friday night’s anniversary show…

1. Tomohiro Ishii, Shigeo Okumura & Namajague def. Rey Cometa, Fuego & Stuka Jr.

Team Japan takes falls one and three with Tomohiro Ishii pinning Stuka Jr. with a superplex to win.

2. Euforia, Mephisto & Niebla Roja def. Brazo de Plata, Maximo & Titan

Rudos tool the first and third falls, Euforia submitting Maximo with a dragon sleeper and Mephisto submitted Brazo de Plata for the win.

3. Marco Corleone, Rush & Vangellys def. Negro Casas, Terrible & Shocker

Two straight falls ending when Rush pinned Negro Casas with assistance from the ropes.

4. Averno def. Blue Panther (Hair vs. Hair submission match)

Averno taking the last two falls, submitting Blue Panther with a rear naked choke in the third.

5. Volador Jr. & La Sombra def. Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero

I did see this and the eventual mask match. This one was pretty quick, with the winners advancing to face off for the masks. You know the crowd wanted to see Atlantis vs. Ultimo Guerrero and would cheer everytime they were on top and boo loudly when they were not… and then, it happened.. La Sombra pinned Atlantis with the Brillante Driver and Volador Jr. pinned Ultimo Guerrero with a spanish fly and the crowd turned on it after 5+ month of building towards the Atlantis-Ultimo Guerrero mask match.

6. CMLL Trios Titles: Mistico, Mascara Dorada & Valiente def. Rey Escorpion, Dragon Rojo Jr. & Polvora

Technicos taking the second and third fall, winning when Mistico submitted Rey Escorpion with La Mistica.

7. La Sombra def. Volador Jr. (Mask match)

Match was just great. Both men accompanied by their fathers, La Sombra with Brillante and Volador Jr. with Volador Sr./Super Parka. La Sombra took the final two falls, winning the third but turning a rana off the top rope into a Canadian Destroyer for the pin. The match was good enough to bring the crowd back for awhile… Volador Jr. unmasked as Ramon Ibarra Rivera, age 32 from Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico.
